How Pokemon appear in Pokemon Pokopia

How Spawning Works

Pokemon in Pokopia don't wander the overworld randomly. They appear at habitats — specific arrangements of items you build in your world. Each habitat has a defined pool of Pokemon that can visit it, filtered by three conditions:

  1. Habitat type — You must build the correct habitat. Each of the 212+ habitats attracts different Pokemon.
  2. Time of day — Some Pokemon only appear during Morning (5–10 AM), Daytime (10 AM–5 PM), Evening (5–8 PM), or Nighttime (8 PM–5 AM). Many appear "All day".
  3. Weather — Some Pokemon require Sunny, Cloudy, Rainy, or Snowy conditions. Many appear in "All weather".

Rarity Tiers

Each Pokemon has a rarity that affects how quickly they appear at their habitat:

  • Common — Appears quickly, usually within minutes of building the habitat.
  • Uncommon — Takes longer to appear. May need to wait a game cycle or two.
  • Rare — Requires patience. May take several in-game days to show up.
  • Legendary — Special conditions beyond habitats. See the Legendary Guide.

Region Locks

Some Pokemon are locked to specific regions. For example, Pikachu only appears in Palette Town, and certain Pokemon are exclusive to Withered Wastelands or Bleak Beach. You must unlock and travel to the correct region to find them.

Regions unlock progressively: Withered Wastelands → Bleak Beach / Rocky Ridges → Sparkling Skylands → Palette Town (post-game).

One Per Habitat

Each habitat instance can only attract one Pokemon at a time. Once a Pokemon is befriended, you can move it to a house to free the habitat for a new visitor. This is the core progression loop — build, befriend, house, repeat.

Tips for Finding Pokemon

  • Use the Spawn Calculator to see who's available right now.
  • Build Rain Dance Site or Sunny Day Site habitats to control weather.
  • Check time-of-day requirements before building — no point building a nighttime habitat at noon.
  • Some habitats attract multiple Pokemon with different time/weather requirements. Build once, get several.
